    2 miles north of Stourbridge and south of central Dudley by approximately 2.5 miles, Brierley Hill is a West Midlands electoral ward and town of the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley in England. In Staffordshire was Brierley Hill.     By the beginning of the 19th century, Brierley Hill had become industrialized with quarries, collieries, glass works, and iron works emerging. With the closure of Round Oak Steelworks in December 1982 resulting in a further 1,300 redundancies, the decline in manufacturing resulted in an unemployment rate of 25% in Brierley Hill by the early 1980s.
