    2 miles north of Stourbridge and south of central Dudley by approximately 2.5 miles, Brierley Hill is a West Midlands electoral ward and town of the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley in England. In Staffordshire was Brierley Hill. With the aim of creating a town centre for the borough, Brierley Hill since 2008, including the Shopping Centre of Merry Hill and Waterfront Business Park that is nearby, as the Dudley Borough's Strategic Town Centre has been designated. With the closure of Round Oak Steelworks in December 1982 resulting in a further 1,300 redundancies, the decline in manufacturing resulted in an unemployment rate of 25% in Brierley Hill by the early 1980s. Brierley Hill had been an urban sanitary authority, it, part of Staffordshire, became an urban district in 1894 under the Local Government Act. On the corner of Bank Street, next to the Civic Hall, West Midlands Police have their main Dudley station in Brierley Hill. St. Michael's Chapel, which was constructed in 1765 by public subscription, was the religious building in Brierley Hill. Recipient of the Victoria Cross for service during Zulu War, Anthony Clarke Booth VC (1846 - 1899) died in Brierley Hill.
